Sir Nick Faldo has always been a huge fan of Rory McIlroy throughout his career.

However, Faldo does have his doubts that McIlroy will be able to win The Masters for a second consecutive time on Sunday.

McIlroy toiled to a round of 73 on day three at Augusta National, and his six-shot overnight lead has now evaporated.

After his second round 65 at The Masters, it seemed like McIlroy would cruise to his sixth major championship win.

However, Augusta National always ensures that outcomes can never be definitively predicted.

McIlroy is now tied for the lead with Cameron Young at The Masters, so he obviously still has a great chance of winning his second green jacket.

Cameron Young played some exceptional golf on Saturday, firing a 65 to make up the eight-shot deficit on McIlroy in just one round at Augusta National.

Sir Nick Faldo doubts Rory McIlroy’s chances of winning The Masters

Sir Nick Faldo was commentating on Sky Sports in the UK during the third round at Augusta National on Saturday.

The six-time major champion was asked who he believes will win The Masters on Sunday.

I think personally, I think Rory’s game is a little inconsistent as we saw today, Faldo said.

If he can find the switch tonight. His driver is right and his irons are left. If he can correct it then obviously he is going to do something special.

But I have to look at Cam Young, the way he has stormed his way through the week from the start.

He has a lot of confidence from winning The Players. There looks less negativity in his game.

Maybe Shane. He has his best buddy. Wouldn’t he like to do something? Jason Day has a shot, a man who has recovered from back injury.

Rosey is on a mission. Scottie Scheffler, my goodness remember what he did at the Olympics when he was way out of it. He is a serious danger man.

When I beat Greg, it was just Greg and I, but this is different. There are seven guys with a shot.

Cameron Young definitely has a great chance to win his first major on Sunday and if Rory McIlroy isn’t on his game, the American will more than fancy his chances of acquiring a green jacket.

Laura Davies predicts The Masters champion and the winning score

Dame Laura Davies was co-commentating on Sky Sports alongside Faldo.

She responded when asked who she thinks will win The Masters on Sunday.

It depends what the committee decides to do, Davies said.

If they firm it up, 12 or 13 could be the number.

If they give them a chance, it could go 14 or 15.

There are so many guys who can go super low. They usually give them pins where they can get to on Sunday. But I would still give Rory my vote if I had to pick a winner. So I will go Rory at 13 under.

It’s almost impossible to predict who will win The Masters on Sunday but one thing’s for sure, it will be one of the most exciting final rounds in the history of the tournament.
