Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels open a seven-game road swing Friday with a visit to Cincinnati to face the Reds.
The Angels have been streaky through two weeks under rookie manager Kurt Suzuki and are sitting at 6-7 after dropping the last two games of a home series against the Braves before heading east. While Trout has yet to get into a groove at the plate, Zach Neto has led the offense with an .833 OPS and four home runs so far.
They will visit a Reds team that's off to a strong start thanks largely to its pitching. Cincinnati's team ERA is just above 3.00 entering the weekend and Friday's starter Chase Burns is a big reason for that. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft has allowed just six hits and one run in 11 innings across two starts while striking out 16.
While Elly De La Cruz and Eugenio Suarez are the best-known Reds hitters, third baseman Sal Stewart has paced the team so far, reaching base in nearly half his plate appearances and posting a 1.154 OPS with four doubles and three homers.
Who will start the weekend with a win? Here's everything you need to know to watch the series opener.
