The announcement comes less than a month after Cena stirred the rumor mill after hinting that he'd found a way to contribute to WWE following his retirement. Now, the truth is clear. Cena's hosting role gives him an opportunity to remain involved with WWE even after his farewell tour with the company last year.

When did Cena retire from WWE?

John Cena's 23-year career with WWE ended following his loss to Gunther at "Saturday Night's Main Event" in December 2025. The event aired on Netflix and saw Cena tap out to "The Ring General."

The match capped off Cena's retirement tour, filled with incredible moments, including seeing Cena win his 17th world championship by defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.

When is WrestleMania 42?

WrestleMania 42 will take place on April 18 and 19 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. This will be the second straight year that Allegiant Stadium has hosted WWE's premier event.

Already some heavy hitters are on the card for the event including CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns, while Cody Rhodes looks to maintain his Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton.
