The fearless feline, who’s become something of a local celebrity, regularly crosses between Canada and the United States like it’s no big deal. Thanks to his daily adventures, neighbours on Zero Ave. have put up a sign warning drivers to watch out for him, CTV News reports.
The handmade sign, complete with a little wooden cat figure, was created by local craftsman Bob Christy, known for his quirky Stumpies characters made from scrap wood. It’s a fitting tribute to a cat who clearly doesn’t follow the rules.
The street already has speed bumps to enforce the 30 km/h limit, per the report, but now drivers get an extra reminder to slow down because Louis might be crossing.
Louis crosses a lot
Louis has become an internet sensation for his near-daily trips over the border, drawing global attention for casually slipping between British Columbia and the state of Washington. Despite strict border laws and surveillance from U.S. officials, Louis simply hops over a narrow ditch that marks the boundary, per ABC .
According to his owner, Deb Tate, Louis wasn’t always such a rebel — but he’s always been “extremely friendly.” Speaking to CBC Radio’s As It Happens host Nil Koksal, Tate said he loves people on both sides of the border. He’ll stroll up to strangers, soak up attention, demand a few belly rubs, and then carry on with his day.
Louis’ route surprisingly simple
On the Canadian side: A row of homes, including his own. On the American side: The open green space of Peace Arch Historical State Park. No fences, no barriers — just a shallow ditch and a road in between, according to CBC . Still, the area is heavily monitored, with cameras and border patrol officers keeping watch.
None of that fazes Louis. He moves back and forth with total confidence. Neighbours say he even hunts in the U.S. and brings his catches back into Canada, skipping customs entirely.

Now nearing his sixth birthday on Canada Day, Louis has fully embraced his fame. His rise to internet stardom kicked off after a viral Instagram video showed him prowling the border.
“There’s a cat that doesn’t really give a f— about borders,” the user says in the clip. “And he comes over and hunts in the ditch … What’s up buddy?”
