The New England Patriots made a significant splash this offseason by signing veteran free agent safety Kevin Byard III.
Byard will now have a chance to play with standout quarterback Drake Maye, but last season, he spent time with another quarterback who was drafted just two picks before Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams, with the Chicago Bears.
The three-time Pro Bowl safety played alongside Williams for the last two seasons and believes Williams is destined to be a top quarterback in the league.
"I think Williams being able to grow in Ben Johnson's offense was great to see, and so I can only imagine what it's going to feel like and look like in year two of Johnson's system," Byard told NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Wednesday. "He is more accurate on the run than he is standing, the craziest thing in the world. I expect him to be a top two or three quarterback in the league."
Williams had a solid season last year, racking up 3,942 passing yards and throwing 27 touchdowns, while only tossing seven interceptions across 17 games.
The Bears appear to have found their franchise quarterback, and it will be interesting to see how Williams performs this season. He could help Chicago reach the Super Bowl for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
