Second-half surge powers Lyons to state semifinal

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WROC) – The Lyons boys were down 16 points in the first quarter of the Class C regional.

They then beat Section VI’s Global Concepts 76-43.
It was a slow start for the Lions. Global Concepts went on a 10-0 run early in the first quarter and took a 12-2 lead. Contrell Parker disrupted the run with a bucket, but the Section VI team responded with an 8-0 run to make it 20-4.
Lyons closed the gap to end the first quarter, trailing 23-12.
In the second, Lyons started to creep back in it. With two minutes until half, they trailed 29-24.
Kaywon Butler hit a three to make it 29-27. Immediately after, Stavell LeBrecht took the ball away and Butler finished the play with the go-ahead layup.
At the break, Lyons had the lead 32-29.
From there, the Lions dominated. They took their first double digit lead of the game, 42-32, with four minutes to play in the third quarter and never looked back.
Lyons outscored Global Concepts 44-14 in the final 16 minutes.
Parker led Lyons with 27 points. Jamire Johnson tallied 17 points, while LeBrecht came away with 10.
Lyons (24-2) will play the winner of Notre Dame (IV) and Cooperstown (III) in the state semifinals on Saturday, March 21 in Binghamton.
