Former Steelers wide receiver retires from NFL at 27 years old

· Yahoo Sports

Another former player of the Pittsburgh Steelers has decided to hang up his cleats this offseason, joining wide receiver Robert Woods, offensive tackle John LeGlue, and offensive tackle Zach Banner in retirement.

Earlier in the week, former Steelers wide receiver and training camp standout Lance McCutcheon took to social media to announce his decision to retire at 27 years old.

"I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone who has played a part in this process," McCutcheon wrote via Instagram. "I couldn’t have accomplished anything that I did or made it where I did without the help from so many different people. The list of thanks that are owed is never-ending, so thank you to everyone out there that helped me accomplish my dream of playing in the NFL. …

"With all of that being said, I am proud to announce that I will be retiring from the NFL and the game of football. Thank you again to everyone out there that made this possible and was with me throughout this entire process."

Signing a reserve/future contract with the Steelers in January 2025, McCutcheon flashed at moments throughout training camp but wasn't able to make Pittsburgh's 53-man roster. He signed with the Steelers' practice squad in September 2025 but was subsequently released just a few days later.

We at Steelers Wire wish McCutcheon nothing but the best as he navigates this new chapter in his life.
