Report: Arizona Cardinals set to hire Teryl Austin
Teryl Austin, who has 22 years of coaching experience in the NFL, including nine seasons as a defensive coordinator with three different franchises, is joining new coach Mike LaFleur’s staff with the Arizona Cardinals as a senior defensive assistant.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the hire, which has yet to be announced by the Cardinals.
Austin, 61, has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2019, first serving as a senior defensive assistant and defensive backs coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2022 and serving in that role through last season. He was not retained under new head coach Mike McCarthy.
Austin previously served as defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions (2014-17) and Cincinnati Bengals (2018). He also coached defensive backs for the Seattle Seahawks (2003-06), the Cardinals (2007-09) and the Baltimore Ravens (2011-13).
