The star defensive tackle is one of New England's best players, but off-field legal issues and on-field injury struggles have put his Patriots future in question. And, last week, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald offered an interesting update on Barmore, on whom NFL and Patriots sources apparently disagree.
"As speculation rose around the combine that the Patriots will part with Christian Barmore, team sources stayed grounded," Callahan wrote. "High-ranking members of the organization expect Barmore to remain in New England, barring something unexpected.
" ... If the Patriots choose to explore the trade market, two AFC executives believe they could land what amounts to a late-round pick for Barmore. One estimated the team could land a sixth-rounder straight up, while the other said Barmore would fetch a fourth-round selection in a pick-swap trade where the Patriots also send a sixth- or seventh-rounder to his new team."
Barmore joined the Patriots as a second-round pick in 2021. After a promising rookie campaign and injury-riddled sophomore season, the Alabama product broke out with 8.5 sacks and 64 tackles in 2023. He was rewarded that offseason with a four-year, $92 million contract.
Barmore is signed through 2028 but isn't due any guaranteed money in 2027 or 2028. The remaining $10 million of his $12 million salary for next season becomes guaranteed on March 13, another variable fueling rumors of his potential exit. Barmore is also currently facing a misdemeanor charge for domestic assault of a family or household member.
After missing most of the 2024 season due to blood clots, Barmore played a full season in 2025 while posting 2.0 sacks and 29 tackles, numbers that don't tell the full story of his impact as one of New England's most productive pass rushers.
