Brenner Russell had two hits, three runs and two RBIs for the Cougars (2-0). Will Ford added a hit, two runs and four RBIs, while Ty Hayes had two hits.

Whit Butler earned the pitching win in two innings, striking out four.

HIGH POINT CENTRAL, WESTERN ALAMANCE

ELON – High Point Central lost 15-0 in three innings against Western Alamance in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Western Alamance.

Cayden Jones struck out two in two innings pitched for the Bison (0-1).

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, FORBUSH

HIGH POINT – Southwest Guilford beat Forbush 13-5 in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Southwest.

Kaden Morgan and Andrew Barefoot each had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Cowboys (1-0). Ryan Maness also doubled and drove in two, while Brendan Snider had two hits and an RBI.

Morgan got the pitching win, striking out nine in five innings.

WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY, CHARLOTTE COUNTRY DAY

CHARLOTTE – Westchester Country Day lost 7-4 against Charlotte Country Day in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Charlotte Country Day.

Ricky Velez had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Wildcats (0-1). Garrett Le added a hit and an RBI, while Tyler Magnus, including two doubles, and Ashton Pittman, including a triple, each had three hits.

Crawford Elrod took the pitching loss, striking out one in 2 1/3 innings, while Kaline Burr-Ellis struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings.

OAK GROVE, LEDFORD

MIDWAY – Oak Grove beat rival Ledford 10-0 in five innings Wednesday in nonconference baseball at Oak Grove.

Addison Terry had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for the Grizzlies (1-0). Mason Crouse also had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while CarsonMesser and Cam Sharpe, who doubled, each had a hit and an RBI.

Sharpe got the pitching win, striking out nine in a complete-game one-hitter. Nick Graham took the loss, striking out two in 3 1/3 innings.

Eli Jordan had the lone hit for the Panthers (0-1).

TRINITY, SOUTHEAST ALAMANCE

HAW RIVER – Trinity edged Southeast Alamance 1-0 in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Southeast Alamance.

Peyton Williams drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt in the fourth for the Bulldogs (1-0). Nick Soles added two hits.

Lincoln Coble earned the win, allowing just two hits.

LACROSSE

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, CORNERSTONE CHARTER

HIGH POINT – Southwest Guilford edged Cornerstone Charter 5-4 in nonconference boys lacrosse Wednesday at Southwest.

The Cowboys opened their season 1-0.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, REAGAN

KERNERSVILLE – Bishop McGuinness topped Reagan 16-7 in nonconference girls lacrosse Wednesday at Bishop.

MK Suire had five goals and two assists for the Villains (1-0). Ellie Brown also scored five goals and dished one assist. Emery Grunwald had three goals and an assist, while Stella Ropko had two goals and Addie Handler had an assist.

Maddie Edwards made three saves in goal.

In the boys game, Bishop lost 15-0 to open its season 0-1.

SOFTBALL

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, WALKERTOWN

HIGH POINT – Southwest Guilford lost 17-0 in four innings against Walkertown in nonconference softball Wednesday at Southwest.

Aniya Harris doubled and tripled for the Cowgirls (0-1), while Stevee Kendrick also doubled. Kendrick also struck out two in three innings pitched.

RAGSDALE, EASTERN GUILFORD

GIBSONVILLE – Ragsdale beat Eastern Guilford 19-1 in three innings Wednesday in nonconference softball at Eastern Guilford.

Claire Souther had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs while Alexis Gray had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Tigers (1-0). Morgan Osborne and Ellie Cuthrell each added two hits and two RBIs.

Gracie Jet Cuthrell earned the pitching win, striking out seven in three innings.

HIGH POINT – Phoenix Academy tied visiting Starmount 1-1 in nonconference girls soccer Wednesday.

Jasmine Adams scored off an assist from Athena Blonco for the Firebirds (0-0-1). Shnidie Marcellus made 10 saves in goal.

DENTON – Trinity topped South Davidson 5-0 in nonconference girls soccer Wednesday at South Davidson.

The Bulldogs started their season 1-0.

MISENHEIMER – Wheatmore beat Gray Stone Day 5-4 in nonconference boys tennis Wednesday at Gray Stone Day.

Silas Jessup (6-2, 6-1), Matthew Davis (6-2, 6-2), Paul Ervin (6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-7) won in singles for the Warriors (1-0). Ervin-Michael McNamara (8-3) won in doubles.

HPU BASEBALL FALLS AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va. – High Point University lost 9-3 against Liberty in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Liberty.

Willie Ponce had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Panthers (5-4), who led 3-1 in the top of the fifth but trailed 6-3 in the bottom half. Landen Johnson and Jace Kohler each had a hit, while Lane Allen had an RBI.

Justin Silverstein took the loss in 2/3 innings, striking out one.
