The Indianapolis Colts and quarterback Anthony Richardson are on the brink of parting ways.
According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, the Colts gave Richardson permission to seek a trade on Thursday as his future with the franchise has been in question over the last few months.
"NEWS: The Indianapolis Colts have given QB Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade given his uncertain future in Indy, ESPN has learned," Holder said on X.
Though Richardson has dealt with a plethora of injuries in his career so far and appeared in just two games in 2025 due to an eye issue, the Florida product still possesses talent as a dual-threat signal-caller.
The Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, and Las Vegas Raiders would be logical landing spots for Richardson as he looks to jumpstart his career.
Kansas City will need to add a starting-caliber quarterback this offseason who can fill in for the first few games of the 2026 season if Patrick Mahomes isn't ready to return from his ACL and LCL surgery in time for Week 1.
Richardson could step in for Mahomes and provide solid play in Andy Reid's offense. Reid would get the most out of the young signal-caller and utilize his skillset as a mobile quarterback.
Minnesota seems like the early favorite to land Richardson. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe has already reported that the Vikings have interest in the Colts quarterback, and the franchise has been intrigued by Richardson for a while now.
Trading for Richardson to compete for the starting job with J.J. McCarthy is an avenue Minnesota could take.
Las Vegas is widely expected to take Indiana signal-caller Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in April, but if general manager John Spytek changes his mind, he could trade for Richardson to serve as a promising stopgap quarterback.
Overall, Richardson needs a change of scenery, and the Chiefs, Vikings, and Raiders would give him that, among other teams.
