After a rough stretch in January, the Vegas Golden Knights entered the Olympic Break on a two-game win streak. They’ve been off for the past 20 days; on Wednesday, they’ll go back to the grind and begin the most important stretch of the season.

And like that, the dog days of the season are over.

The Golden Knights have just 25 games remaining on their schedule, and every single one matters. With the Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken hot on their heels, they can’t afford to lose focus or take a game off.

The final stretch of the season begins at Crypto.com Arena against their Pacific Division rivals, the Los Angeles Kings. From there, the Golden Knights will head east and embark on a series of games against the Capitals, Penguins, Sabres, and Red Wings. All five of those teams are above .500 in the standings. In short, it’ll be a gauntlet.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy thinks that resuming the season on the road might be a good thing.

However, he first acknowledged the difficulty of traveling from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C.

“I don’t like coming here to LA, and then [going] to Washington,” Cassidy joked. “I don’t like that part; I would have rather just gone east and played five games… But that’s the hand you’re dealt. Everyone has that schedule. March is going to be messy for everyone and busy.”

Although travel can be tiring, and unfamiliar lodgings can disrupt sleep, teams often prefer the simplicity of playing on the road. There are no distractions— just the players, their teammates, and their job.

“I like going on the road coming out of this break,” Cassidy continued. “Because guys had time to themselves, and with their families, and to recharge. And now, when you’re on the road, it’s just the guys. You go to the rink, you go home, and you’re around your teammates. It might be an advantage.”
