University of Pretoria head coach Kwanele Kopo has provided an update on the progress of Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Aphelele Teto.
The 22-year-old winger signed for the Betway Premiership champions on a free transfer after his exit at Scottish Premiership side Livingston FC at the beginning of the ongoing season.
Teto had joined the Scottish team from TS Galaxy in August 2023, but didn't make a single appearance as he failed to obtain a work permit, paving way for a loan move to Chippa United in July 2024.
Now, Kopo has given a detailed progress of the attacker, stressing that patience is needed with the player as he endured a difficult spell in Europe.
“Well, maybe I'm lucky in that [regard]. In my previous club I also brought Teto. I brought him back from Scotland to have him at Chippa, so I've worked with him, he's a player with lots of potential,” he said.
"Young players make mistakes, but it's always about second opportunity. Oswin Appollis is a story we'll always talk about. So, we have to be patient with him, he's had a very difficult period obviously -going abroad and not having an opportunity to play due to documentation and not necessarily ability.
"But he's back, he's doing well, very good player going forward, very good 1v1, nice balance and coordination and a good finisher. He's a trump card for us but there's a lot of other player that are doing well for us.
Meanwhile, AmaTuks will host Betway Premiership outfit Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Round of 16 at the Tuks Stadium on Sunday.
