Trio charged, fourth suspect sought in over 40 copper thefts in Milton and Halton Hills

Halton Regional Police have charged two men and a woman and are searching for a fourth suspect following an investigation into area copper thefts.

In 2025, the HRPS says there were over 40 incidents of copper wire theft across Milton and Halton Hills in which telecommunication cable lines were cut down, salvaged for the copper and then sold for profit.

In response to these thefts, in early January of 2026, members of the 1 District Project Team consolidated to investigate a network of individuals suspected to be involved in these crimes.

On Jan. 30, around 10:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of copper wire theft in the area of Canyon Rd. and Campbell Ave., in Milton, where two suspects were arrested and charged.

On Jan. 31, 1DPT executed search warrants on two vehicles and two residences (in Guelph and Erin) where several items of evidentiary value were seized, including tools, copper wire and electronic devices.

During the execution of the search warrants, a third suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Brendan Boyd, 36, of Guelph, faces nine charges including three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, two counts each of possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime – trafficking, and one count each of theft under $5,000 and possession of a schedule 1 substance – methamphetamines.

Benjamin Moffatt, 43, of Guelph, was charged with theft under $5,000.

Dawna Mitchell, 36, of Erin, was charged with two counts each of possession of property obtained by crime – under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime – trafficking, and one count of failing to comply with a release order.

Investigators continue to search for a fourth suspect identified as Christopher Lennon, 29, of Halton Hills, who is wanted for possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime – trafficking.
