What record will the Nets finish with following the All-Star Break?

The Brooklyn Nets looked like they were on their way to potentially competing for a play-in tournament spot in the Eastern Conference with the way they played during December. Since the calendar turned to January, Brooklyn once again played like one of the worst teams in the league. Following the All-Star Break, what can the Nets fanbase expect from the team in terms of wins and losses?

"Michael Porter Jr. somehow stayed on the Brooklyn Nets' roster through the trade deadline, and his continued presence means there'll be at least one game-ready veteran scorer on the floor whenever he plays," Grant Hughes wrote for Bleacher Report. The outlet predicted that the Nets (15-38) will finish the 2025-26 NBA season with a 19-63 record, meaning that Brooklyn is expected to win just four of its final 29 games.

"The Nets' ability to crack 20 wins may depend on how often he plays down the stretch. Odds are, Brooklyn will prioritize draft position and take it easy with MPJ's minutes," Hughes continued. "He'll be a hugely valuable trade chip this offseason—or a potential keeper since the Nets don't control their 2027 first-rounder—but only if he stays healthy."

Porter, 27, is averaging 25.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 47.4% from the field and 38.5% from three-point land in 41 games played this season. While Porter has been playing at an All-Star caliber level this season in his first season as the best player on a team, he has slowed down somewhat since the beginning of January with his averages of 23.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 43.8% from the floor and 34.4% from deep.

To Hughes' point, how Brooklyn plays for the rest of the season will depend on Porter's availability, especially when considering the fact that he has missed the Nets' last two games heading into the All-Star Break due to right knee tendinitis. With Brooklyn seemingly destined for a high pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the Nets understandably seem more concerned about developing the younger players on the team, allowing Porter to rest his body more often down the stretch.
