Zach Banner, a fan-favorite offensive tackle who sent Steelers Nation into a frenzy when they heard "No. 72 is reporting as eligible receiver," has announced his retirement from football.

"This is that announcement that every professional athlete hates to make," Banner said. "You try your hardest to play and perform at a high level as long as you can. And you work so many hours and days on and off the field to chase your dreams and goals. You don't really have time to process that announcement, but I'm here now.
"I am officially going to retire from the National Football League. I want to thank my family and friends, the city of Tacoma, the Island of Guam, Lakes High School, the University of Southern California, all these amazing people I worked with in the National Football League, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and city of Pittsburgh — where my family has made a second home. It is so special to be able to say that I will retire as a Pittsburgh Steeler."
He concluded his retirement announcement video by thanking his wife Alex and his son Noah for loving him and giving him purpose.

Banner served as the Steelers swing tackle from 2018-2019 before finally being named the starting right tackle in 2020. He unfortunately tore his ACL in Week 1, an injury that ultimately derailed his career trajectory.
